Chelsea Cloakroom 2022

We are very pleased to say that the Cloakroom will be in operation at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this year and Plant Heritage has again been given the opportunity to run it. You can apply to volunteer using the form below.

For those not involved before, visitors leave their suitcases, coats, briefcases, picnics, shopping and the occasional fold-up bike with us as they enjoy the show.  As well as being great fun, this brings in welcome funds to Plant Heritage through the donations given by visitors.
Even if you have helped us in the past, please read all of the information in this email before you offer to help. The show runs from Tuesday 24th May to Saturday 28th May 2022.

Whilst many of our members will be familiar with the workings of the cloakroom, additional procedures, with regard to the Covid pandemic, will be in place, and may change as needs arise. To protect staff and volunteers we will require face masks and protective gloves to be worn during shifts; we recommend all volunteers to be fully vaccinated against Covid, and you may be required to take a lateral flow test within 24 hours of the start of your shift, all subject to the current government guidance in place at that time. Further information regarding procedures will be provided closer to the event. There are space constraints within the cloakroom and the number of visitors/bags can vary between shifts, so we would urge anyone who considers themselves medically vulnerable re Covid, or is uncertain of their safety, to consider not volunteering this year.

Each day is split into shifts and initially you can apply for one shift only.  If you would like to do more than one shift, please mention this when you reply and we will contact you if there are spaces.
07.30 - 11.00  (not Wed)
10.45 - 14.15  (only available Fri and Sat)
14.00 - 17.30
17.15 - 20.00   This shift does not run on Saturday (show closes at 17.30)
20.00 - 22.30   Only on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

To make sure that as many members as possible get the opportunity to help us, two places per shift are reserved for those who have not previously worked in the cloakroom.  This will apply until February 21st when all the remaining empty slots will then be open to all members, regardless of their previous experience. When requesting your slot please mention whether or not you have helped in the cloakroom previously.

IMPORTANT - when applying:

  • you need to be a member of Plant Heritage.  You will need your membership number to request a slot.  If you are joint members, you will only receive one email, so please refer to the membership number listed.
  • it is vital that you are physically fit, able to stand for 4 hours, carry bags, plus reach up and down to put them onto the shelves. Some shifts can be very busy.
  • you must be aware of and understand the potential Covid infection risks that may be involved, and the protection measures identified above.
  • by applying to help in the cloakroom you are confirming you fit these criteria and aware of the risks - if there is any change please let us know.

If you would like to offer to help please complete the email form below - noting your preferred date and time of shift, your membership number, and whether you have worked in the cloakroom previously. Plus to confirm you have understood the requirements for volunteering in the cloakroom.

Please note your membership number and the shift (day and time) you wish to apply for, and tell us if you have volunteered previously

eg: plant genus, common name, county, collection holder name.
