Summer Evening Social

Prestbury, Cheltenham

Members and guests are cordially invited to an evening social event.  There will be no charge for the event, but donations towards drinks will be welcome and everyone is asked to bring one plate of food.

Many thanks to Si and Di Ryley for hosting the event in their garden.  Di relates that the garden has evolved from a completely overgrown and neglected acre, with broken down walls and a stream banked  by corrugated iron, over 30 years.  They have always planted in an unplanned way for wildlife, although the planting is somewhat contained because of the deer-roe and muntjac, badgers and foxes that patrol! The garden has good views towards the Malverns, good sunsets and space to play croquet. Of special interest is that the property was once owned by Capt. H.P. Leschallas, author of 'The Small Alpine Garden'.  His gardeners and farm workers lived at the property where he kept prize chickens and grew alpines, while Leschallas lived in the neighbouring property, which lends its name to a lovely alpine saxifrage.

Please RSVP to Stevie Pontifex not later than 17th June. To save us having nothing to eat except quiche (!) please let her know whether you are planning to bring a plate of savoury or sweet food.
