Your support, no matter how small, will make a huge difference

Plants are essential for all life on earth

Plant Heritage carries out vital work across the UK, supported by people like you. Together with our members, we are safeguarding nearly 100,000 plants for the future. Our work is even more important as we face up to climate change, the biodiversity crisis and new pests and diseases.

There are many ways you can support our work, including by becoming a member, getting involved in our conservation schemes by starting a National Plant Collection or becoming a Plant Guardianvolunteering with us, making a donation or leaving a legacy in your will. We are also looking for new corporate partners and trusts and foundations to help us take our work to the next level.

If you would like to discuss a new opportunity and can't find the link on our website, please feel free to get in touch.

As a small charity, we rely heavily on your support to make our work possible. Thank you.

Over 720 National Plant Collections

There are over 720 National Plant Collections and we aim to register many more plant groups to protect our plant diversity, for people to enjoy today and tomorrow. We are also working to duplicate National Collections and to encourage more shared collections, held by groups of people. These help us get more people involved in plant conservation, and reduce the risk that collections will be lost due to pests and disease, weather extremes or when people can't look after their plants anymore.

Funds raised will also help us to:

  • Expand the Plant Guardian scheme - targeting rare and unusual plants, not yet in National Plant Collections, as well as our Threatened Plants Programme which tracks plants most at risk of disappearing to inform conservation efforts.
  • Maintain and develop our plant recording system Persephone - Collection Holders get free access to this to record information about their plants. We do regular updates and improvements to ensure that it is secure and easy to use.
  • Recruit and support more volunteers - As a small team, we rely heavily on our volunteer Collection Coordinators and Plant Exchange Coordinators. They play a vital role in our work.
  • Fund training workshops - To update Collection Holders on important topics like researching plants, taking herbarium specimens, propagating more plants, plant health and sustainability.
  • Fund access to expert resources - As part of our commitment to National Collection Holders, we provide them with free access to resources that can help them in their work, like the online Plant Reference Library (JSTOR).
