This will be a visit of many delights to a nursery of high repute, home of two National Plant Collections, Astrantia and Chrysanthemum (hardy) dispersed. With refreshments on arrival, and then a guided tour of the nursery by Andrew and Helen Ward. This promises to be a real treat. Described in the National Garden Scheme book as a jewel box of 3000 different, beautiful and unusual plants sumptuously set out in a 1-acre plantsman’s garden including cottage garden borders, alpine and scree areas, shade and woodland areas and a pond. 

On the edge of the Wellow Dyke, bordered by a woodland garden, this garden promises contrast with mature shrubs, weeping trees, herbaceous beds, irises, roses and rambling roses scrambling into fruit trees coupled with a generous terrace and the formality of yew hedges and wide sweeps of lawn. Andrew is  the National Garden Scheme organiser for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

This historic walled garden, established in 1758, is a great place to visit to plant enthusiasts. It is run by a small, independent charity with over 100 volunteers and a small staff.  Two National Collections, Malus domestica (Yorkshire apple cultivars) and Pelargonium (Rosebud), will be featured in the visit.
