Surrey Group AGM
Our AGM, presentation of Flower of the Meeting Prize, Raffle, Photographic Competition judging and prize giving and two short talks by RHS Wisley students.
Our Annual AGM, Announcement of the winner of our Plant of the Meeting Competition and Photographic Competition. It is also the one meeting of the year that in addition to tea and coffee we indulge in a feast of delicacies brought along by Surrey Group Members. Do remember to bring along some food to share, if you possibly can, either sweet or savoury.
It is also the start of our 2020 Plant of the Meeting Competition. If you wish to enter then please bring along a vase containing a stem bearing flowers, fruit or seed heads from your garden, greenhouse or conservatory. There is a prize but it is really just for fun, to decorate the all and so that we can all see what is looking good in the garden at this time of year.
In addition there will be two short talk given by RHS Wisley students.
David Pearce will share his knowledge of the wondrous world of lichens; their biology, ecology, systematics, importance and conservation. He will bring in samples of lichen from around the Wisley site to showcase the diversity of them. Exploring will go into depth about the various symbiotic relationships they have, and the evolutionary wonder that they represent. I will cover their reproductive biology as well as their habitats they're found in. I will also mention how to encourage them into one's own garden.
Lee Behegan The Journey of a Young Plantsman. Lee will give a brief insight to the life of a young horticultural student and talk about his career. From Gardening in Irelands ancient east,Gardening in Americas garden capital, his life at Wisley, the gardens & plants of Andalucía and Scotland, including his favourite gardens, plants and inspirational landscapes.
Two talks not to be missed.
