We are delighted to welcome Diane Clement to talk to us about the Lycian Way. Diane is new to our group, but well known in plant circles, having recently retired from being the Director of the Alpine Garden Society's Seed Exchange. She has been growing and showing alpine plants for 30 years and is a keen exhibitor and RHS judge. She has recently been awarded the Lyttel Trophy which is the premier award from the Alpine Garden Society, “for making an outstanding contribution to the world of alpine plants, and meritorious work in advancing the knowledge of alpines to a wide audience”.
The Lycian Way runs along the coast of South west Turkey and as we pass through stunning
scenery we take in Roman amphitheatres and ruined ancient cities. Spring and Autumn bring rain
and the area erupts with glorious bulbs. Of course the three big “Cs” dominate – Crocus,
Colchicum and Cyclamen, but there are lots of other plants to take our interest, all blooming in this
beautiful land, overflowing with classical sites as well as amazing plants.
Diane's talk will be preceded by a short group AGM and followed by tea/coffee and yummy cakes!
Please arrive from 1.45pm for our AGM to start promptly at 2pm, followed by the talk at around 2.30pm. Papers for the AGM will be uploaded in advance of the meeting.
Please remember any unwanted (or wanted) Christmas gifts for the New Year raffle and bring along any plants of seasonal interest to show to the group.
