ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Saturday 14^th November 2026 at Cullompton Community Centre, Pye Corner, Cullompton, Devon, EX15 1JX

From 9.30am       Tea and coffee & biscuits will be available on arrival along with sales tables of plants, books, garden miscellanea with a raffle.

10.30 am         Annual General Meeting of Plant Heritage, Devon & Cornwall Group

11.30 am        Speaker is Christopher Bailes with a talk entitled Familiar plants in unfamiliar places: flowers of the Drakensberg mountains of South Africa

Christopher trained at RBG Kew and then stayed on working as a supervisor in the Tropical Section specialising in orchids, succulents and tender plants. He left to take up the post of Manager at The Eric Young Orchid Foundation in Jersey. Then Devon called and he moved to take up the role of Curator at RHS Garden Rosemoor developing and implementing the masterplan for this new garden. Following this a stint in London as Curator of The Chelsea Physic Garden.

Apart from the day jobs Christopher has been the editor of The Orchid Review; co-written a book on Hardy Orchids and penned Hollies for Gardeners. He has been the President of the Alpine Garden Society and is an RHS judge for Floral and Garden exhibits at the big RHS Shows. He has travelled many parts of the world looking at plants and has guided plant focused tour groups.
