Description:
Discovered in Hadiyah, Yemen by Pehr Forsskal and published in his 1775 Flora of Egypt & Arabia as Ocimum hadiensis. Although the first Plectranthus to be described, it was transfrred to this genus in 1894 by Schweinfurth & Sprenger. (The South African Plectranthus, van Jaarsveld 2006).
