Dahlia ‘Nellie Broomhead’ (Pom)


Description:

A pompon registered in 1897 by J. T. West, from his nursery in Brentwood, Essex. It received the RHS Award of Merit with unanimous votes. Described in ‘Dahlias’ (1912) by George Gordon, it was selected as one of ‘eighteen choice pompon dahlia for exhibition or garden decoration’. It bears pale blooms blended with deep mauve. It was regularly offered for sale in specialist dahlia catalogues until at least 1924, and returned to UK shores via a small specialist nursery in Cambridgeshire.
