Lilium ‘Ellen Wilmott’
Synonym: Lilium ‘Ellen Willmott’ (II)
Description:
Named for eminent horticulturist Ellen Willmott (1858–1934) of Warley Place, this plant was raised by C. G. van Tubergen of Zwanenburg Nurseries in the Netherlands and reputedly gained a First-Class Certificate in 1898. Willmott supported the nursery’s plant-collecting expeditions and maintained close ties with director John Hoog. Our Plant Guardian acquired it around 1986 from Derek Fox of Bullwood Nursery, Essex, author of Growing Lilies (1987), known for his work with Pacific Coast hybrids.
