Potentilla argyrophylla ‘Alfred Salter’
Description:
Possibly named for Alfred Salter, a nineteenth-century nurseryman associated with the Versailles Nursery, Hammersmith. John Wright’s The Flower Grower’s Guide (1898) records an ‘Alfred Salter’ as a double hybrid Potentilla with scarlet and orange flowers, establishing the historical use of the name. However, it remains uncertain whether this cultivar is the same plant as the modern P. argyrophylla ‘Alfred Salter’ or whether Salter himself bred it.
