Description:
A short-lived perennial from Chile, it has pinnatifid leaves with a large, often red-spotted terminal leaflet. Fragrant white flowers (to 7 cm) open in late afternoon, fade by morning, and may age pinkish-purple, blooming from summer to autumn. Found in dry coastal and lower mountain habitats. Not fully hardy in cold, wet winters; often grown as an annual. Seed capsules open only when wet. Yellow-flowered form is O. a. 'Aurea' (Syn. O. a. 'Lutea').
