Description:
Endemic to both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, this temperate shrub grows in scrub and grassland on ultramafic rocks. Commonly known as red hills veronica, it forms a compact shrub up to 1m tall with leathery, dull olive-green to glaucescent leaves arranged in distinctive opposite pairs at right angles to each other. Dense racemes of small white flowers with magenta anthers are produced from November to January, followed by fruiting through to April.
