Description:
Drought-adapted succulent tree endemic to the Mahafaly Plateau in southwestern Madagascar. Growing 2.4–6 m tall, it has a columnar trunk with upright branches, small deciduous leaves, and black-tipped thorns. Its stems carry out photosynthesis, helping it survive in arid, water-limited environments. Small green or yellow flowers may appear. It inhabits narrow coastal drylands within the Madagascar spiny forests, alongside species such as Cedrelopsis grevei and Ficus marmorata.
