Geranium traversii Hook.f.
Description:
Chatham Islands endemic plant described by Joseph Dalton Hooker in 1867, though likely collected by Henry Travers. Distinct from related species, it is among New Zealand’s most unique geraniums, with large white to pink or purple flowers and variable leaf colour. Common on dry, open habitats, it avoids wetlands and forests. Though widely grown, it faces threats from grazing animals, invasive plants, and habitat competition, especially marram grass.
