Clematis afoliata
Synonym: Clematis aphylla
Description:
A unique, leafless, wiry climber native to New Zealand, found in open rocky and coastal habitats. It forms tangled, twisting stems up to 2–3 m long, with only tiny or absent leaves. In spring, it produces small, greenish-yellow, fragrant flowers on bare stems. Adapted to sunny, dry, and exposed sites, it thrives in well-drained soil and adds an unusual sculptural element to gardens.
