Description:
Native to eastern Australia, this evergreen shrub or small tree grows naturally in subtropical rainforest, particularly along streams and other watercourses. Commonly known as brush cherry, it is typically shrubby but may exceed 20m in height. It has glossy obovate to elliptical green leaves, clusters of white flowers in spring, and fleshy red/purple fruits when ripe. Widely cultivated beyond its native range, it has also been introduced to New Zealand, California and Guatemala.
