Tulbaghia verdoorniae
Description:
Bulbous perennial is endemic to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it grows along drainage lines and stream banks in sub-escarpment savanna. Reaching 15–30cm tall, it develops light green, glaucous, onion-scented leaves from a branching rhizomatous corm. The umbels bear 5–8 star-shaped flowers with purple perianths and a distinctive orange cup-like corona, flowering in December. The species is currently listed as threatened.
