Iris ‘Gay Hussar’
Description:
Introduced by Edward Bruce Williamson of Bluffton, of Longfield Iris Farm, Indiana, it was first registered as an intermediate bearded iris in 1929. Blooming midseason, it features arching lemon-chrome standards with maroon veining and broad, flaring falls of deep velvety ox-blood red edged paler, with a yellow beard. Williamson, a noted naturalist and iris breeder, began hybridising about 1906 and introduced many vigorous, influential varieties.
