Begonia boliviensis A.DC. (T)
Description:
First published in 1859, this tuberous species is native to the eastern Andes of southern Bolivia and northwestern Argentina, where it grows in cloud forests and seasonally dry habitats. Introduced during 19th-century South American botanical exploration, it forms arching stems with glossy lance-shaped leaves and produces cascading clusters of bright orange-red flowers in summer, making it an important ancestor of many modern ornamental begonias.
