Arisaema thunbergii subsp. urashima (H.Hara) H.Ohashi & J.Murata
Description:
First published as a distinct subspecies in 1980, this cobra lily is native to Japan and South Korea, though it was long recognised by Japanese botanists and gardeners before formal classification. It occurs from southern Hokkaido to Kyushu in temperate woodland habitats. Especially valued in Japan, where unusual colour forms have been selected for generations, it is known for its maroon hooded flower and long whip-like spadix that extends far beyond the bloom.
