Plant Guardians

Astilbe ‘Harmony’ (× arendsii)

Description:

Introduced by Dutch breeder Henk van der Meer around 2000 as part of his “Eden” series. It derives from early 20th-century Arendsii hybrids created by Georg Arends using East Asian woodland species. It is valued for bronzy foliage that lasts through the season and tall reddish-pink flower plumes in late July. Growing to about 90 cm, it thrives in moist, humus-rich soils in partial shade, but can tolerate more sun if conditions remain consistently damp.

Threat Status: Threatened In Cultivation As assessed by the Plant Heritage Threatened Plants Programme. For more details see www.plantheritage.org.uk/conservation/threatened-plants/
