Description:
Poor knight's lily, or ‘raupō taranga’ in Māori, is a striking, slow-growing perennial native to New Zealand’s Poor Knights and Hen Islands. It forms compact clumps to 1m tall and 1.5m wide, with sword-shaped, green-yellow leaves in iris-like fans. In spring and summer, sturdy stems bear dense racemes of vivid red, bottlebrush-like flowers tipped with orange pollen. It prefers well-drained soil, sun to partial shade, and tolerates coastal conditions and drought.
