Escallonia tucumanensis
Description:
A shrub or small tree is known to reach a height of 15 feet in its natural habitat, and occasionally up to 20 feet; the young shoots are reddish and may be slightly downy or nearly hairless. The flowers are white and appear in slender panicles during July and early August. This species is native to Bolivia and northwestern Argentina; it was introduced to Kew in 1961 through seeds collected by Dr. F. Vervoorst in the Tucuman province.
