Astilbe ‘Martha Illing’ (× arendsii)
Synonym: Astilbe ‘Martha Illing’ × arendsii
Description:
Introduced by German horticulturist Georg Arends, the original breeder behind the Arendsii group of astilbe hybrids. It dates from the early 20th century (around the 1920s–1930s), during his long breeding programme that combined East Asian Astilbe species from China and Japan. It was selected for its strong garden performance, reliable flowering, and suitability for moist, shaded temperate gardens.
