Phlox paniculata ‘Otley Purple’
Description:
An introduction from Fred M. Simpson (1879–?), a horticulturist from Otley, West Yorkshire who began gardening in his 50s after ill health forced retirement. Using his cross-breeding skills, he developed new strains of Korean chrysanthemums, lupins, Michaelmas daisies, and in his 70s, perennial phlox. His Phlox introductions include ‘Windsor’, ‘Balmoral, ‘Sandringham’, ‘Otley Choice’, ‘Glamis’, ‘Harewood’ and ‘Holyrood’.
