Ugni candollei (Barnéoud) O.Berg
Synonym: Myrtus candollei
Description:
Known as murta, this evergreen shrub is native to central and southern Chile, where it grows in temperate coastal habitats from sea level to 2,000m. Typically reaching around 80cm tall, it has densely arranged, leathery oval leaves, white five-petalled flowers and edible round berries. It is adapted to humid regions with near-constant rainfall, grows best with partial shade, and is cultivated for both its ornamental value and edible fruit.
