Aquilegia glandulosa Fisch. ex Link.
Description:
First published in 1822, this columbine is native to Siberia, the Altai Mountains and north-western Mongolia, where it grows on grassy slopes, in coniferous forests and along mountain valleys at elevations of 1,900–2,700 metres. Adapted to cool temperate conditions, it forms compact clumps of divided foliage and bears large nodding flowers in shades of bright blue and white during summer. Its striking blooms and mountain origins have made it a favourite among alpine gardeners.
