Iris ‘Whitehall’ (TB)


Description:

Tall bearded iris introduced by Olive Murrell (1889–1957) of Orpington, Kent in 1937. White flowers in midseason, bred from a cross between 'Souv. De Mme Gaudichau' x 'W. R. Dykes'. A pioneering iris hybridiser, Olive was the first woman awarded the Foster Memorial Plaque in 1935. Co-owner of Orpington Nurseries with her husband Percy, she introduced around 80 iris cultivars. She championed British and international iris breeding, introducing cultivars from Dykes, Bliss, Chadburn, and Sass.
