Description:
Threatened shrub endemic to New Zealand's South Island, growing on temperate grasslands, terraces, lake shores and rocky outcrops. Compact, rounded shrub to 50cm tall and 1m wide, bearing small, bluish-green leaves in opposite pairs. Dense, purplish-blue flower spikes appear from summer into early autumn in its native range, followed by fruiting into autumn. This pattern may differ when grown in the UK. Performs best in full sun in moist but well-drained chalk, loam or sandy soils.
