Asarum pulchellum
Description:
Asarum pulchellum was first published in 1890 in Gardeners’ Chronicle. It is native to southern China, especially temperate forest regions at about 700–1700 m, where it grows on the shaded floor of mixed deciduous and evergreen woodlands. In the wild it spreads slowly by creeping rhizomes, forming low carpets in humus-rich soils among rocks and leaf litter. Its origin in these cool, shaded Asian forest systems explains its preference for moist, well-drained woodland conditions in cultivation.
