Hypoxis hemerocallidea
Synonym: Hypoxis rooperi
Description:
Found in open grassland and woodland regions throughout southern and South Africa grassland areas where fire is part of its ecological success. Considered to be drought-tolerant, frost-resistant, it prefers full sun and well-drained soil. The bulbs are winter dormant with growth emerging late winter. Germination of seed can be difficult with a yearlong dormancy period; germination may be stimulated by smoke, ash, or fire. Propagation is best achieved by division of corms.
