Aloe greatheadii var. davyana

Description:

Endemic to northern KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, this rare aloe is restricted to the Babanango district, where it grows among rocky grasslands, thornveld, and slopes near rivers and streams. First collected in 1931 by Rev. F. J. Gerstner and later described by aloe specialist Gilbert Westacott Reynolds, it was named in Gerstner’s honour. It forms solitary rosettes of grey-green leaves and produces tall spikes of orange flowers in late summer.
