Barkeria vanneriana
Description:
An orchid with scandent, sometimes epiphytic, growth habit. Accepted species growing in Mexico, primarily in the states of Puebla, Oaxaca and Guerrero. Known to grow over a wide habitat range from wet tropical lower elevations to drier, higher elevations. Widely said to be named for a German orchid collector working in Mexico during 1800s, there are references to W. Vanner (Chislehurst, UK) who raised numerous orchid hybrids, some of which are recorded in Hanson’s 'The Orchid Hybrids' 1895.
