We are looking for support for the following :
1. Supplying specimen plants from National Plant Collections and Plant Guardians.
We would like to broaden the representation of National Plant Collections within our
display. At time of publishing, we have 40 NPCs in Yorkshire, so if you would like to support
us by lending us some of your plants and/or providing plants for the selling table, please get
in touch. We are also interested in displaying plants from Plant Guardians and potential
NPCs as we want to inform the public about these initiatives. We are willing to collect
plants, so volunteering to collect exhibits is a great way of geƫting to know the Collection
Holders and their collections.
2. Setting up the Plant Heritage display prior to the Show
This task involves placing plants, posters and information boards on the stand and other
display boards to an outline plan. This is planned for 20th and 21st April. The activity
demands strength, agility and stamina. Physical tasks include loading, unloading and
transporting plants, props and materials. Critically important is the selection of plants for
display ensuring none have diseased, damaged or dead foliage. Failing to notice any of these
signs will cost us marks! Other preparation includes planting selected plants inside clay pots
with a horticultural grit (both provided) as needed, placing on the stand, checking the plant
labels are visible and ensuring the overall effect is attractive and meaningful. Please get in
touch if you would like to support seƫting up.
3. Preparing and bringing plants for the selling table
For each sale growers receive 70% of the marked price, with the remaining 30% going to
Plant Heritage. The plants should be in peat free compost and have two labels - one with the
name of the plant the other with the grower’s name or initials and the price. Ideally the
plants should be delivered to the stall by Wednesday 22nd April but can be brought when
you visit the show if necessary. Please get in touch if you have plants for sale that need to be
collected.
4. Volunteers to help on each day of the Show
Volunteering will provide free access to the show and will offer time for breaks to explore
the show ground and take refreshment as we agree an informal rota at the start of each
shift. Volunteering can be done in whole day, morning or afternoon shifts.
5. Dismantling the stand and clearing all plants, materials and props on Sunday after 5pm.
This is a physically demanding task, which requires most if not all of the plants, materials and
props to be removed from site. If anything is left, then retrieval is possible up to 12 noon on
Monday 27th April.
If you can help in any way please get in touch by emailing Jackie Haigh - jhaigh3@me.com
