When we visited Sherwood in October 2024 we saw a beautiful display of autumn colour in this 23-acre valley garden, developed by the Quicke family from the 1960s. They planted a huge range of plants for all seasons.

The Chambers’ most recent project is to cover their inner courtyard and fill the space with tropical plants. This is still a process of trial and error, and it will be interesting to see how it is developing.
Nicola will give us an introduction and then we will be free to explore. Stout footwear and walking sticks are recommended.

Directions-

From Exeter take the A377 to Crediton and keep on this road. ¾ mile after Newton St Cyres turn left onto Five Elms Lane, signposted Sherwood.  Do not follow Satnav thereafter but keep straight on this lane. The entrance to the drive is after 1¾ miles.
Park in front of the house and on the drive down to the cottage.
All events are open to members and members’ guests and will take place whatever the weather, unless the garden owner judges that the conditions are too hazardous.

When booking is required, you can book your place at an event with the Event Contact person, and if a cost is involved, we appreciate payment in advance.     We are now having to pay a fee to the Bank when we pay in cheques and cash.   If you are able to pay by Bank Transfer that would be very much appreciated.    Our Bank is HSBC and our account is Plant Heritage, Sort code: 40-34-31 Account no. 21279521.   Please put your name and event in the Reference box.   We would be very grateful if you are able to do this.   If not, cash is better than a cheque. Please make cheques payable to Plant Heritage Devon Group.

When attending the Event, may we ask you to respect the owners’ privacy and not to enter the garden before the time specified.
