Labelling Plants for Collections and Shows - Helen Moorcraft, Plant Heritage volunteer, explores the role of plant labelling in effective collection record-keeping and shares guidance on creating show labels that achieve maximum impact.

Labels – Love Them or Hate Them? - Richard Marshall, National Collection holder of Penstemon, Philadelphus and Ceratostigma - and a Plant Guardian takes an insightful look at plant labels. He highlights why labels are essential and how they form a key part of a robust plant management and record-keeping system.

Labels That Last: Quality and Craftsmanship for Every Garden and Collection - Winterling’s John Rogers is passionate about producing high-quality, thoughtfully designed labels for botanical, horticultural, arboricultural, educational, cultural, and conservation projects. From his workshop on the edge of the Peak District in Cheshire, he works closely with clients to create labels that are informative, well composed and visually appealing.  Clients range from Royal residences to botanical gardens, arboreta, Chelsea show gardens, national collections and private gardens.

MacPennys Garden Labels - Made in the UK and in use since the 1960s, the labels are scratched rather than written on, so they don’t smudge, fade or wash away. Trusted by professional gardeners, including the National Trust and Highgrove, they remain legible for years in outdoor conditions. This talk will explore their durable, smudge-free design and the practical ways they can be used in gardens of all sizes and across a wide range of plants, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

Crafting Permanent Labels: Tradition Meets Innovation in Botanical and Horticultural Labelling - Sheen Labels Ltd combines traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to produce premium horticultural and botanical labels and accessories. This talk explores their wide range of durable and specialist materials, available in both standard and bespoke formats, and highlights how thoughtful design and quality manufacturing can enhance plant identification, record-keeping, and the overall presentation of gardens and collections.

Smart Labels in the Garden: NFC and QR Codes for Identification and Knowledge Sharing - Andy Boyton, Head Gardener of the Narcissus Springfields Collection at Springfields Horticultural Society Ltd, explores how modern technology is transforming plant management. Discover how NFC (Near-Field Communication) tags can enhance identification and security, and how QR (Quick Response) codes enable seamless knowledge sharing for horticultural collections. This talk highlights practical applications, benefits, and tips for integrating smart labelling into both professional and enthusiast gardens.
