We will be demonstrating many aspects of autumn propagation, from division and hard-wood cuttings to seed collecting and sowing.
In addition, we will be running a Hippeastrum (often incorrectly sold as Amaryllis) and Phalaenopsis Orchid workshop. If you have had a Hippeastrum and it has been sitting on your windowsill, devoid of any bloom, for years or even if you acquired one last Christmas and want to know how to look after it then bring it along. With a bit of knowledge and a little care they will happily produce blooms for you every year, some of the cultivars also have a tendency (if they are happy) to produce an endless supply of new bulbs. I know Phalaenopsis Orchids are often treated like indoor bedding and are thrown away when they finish blooming but if you would like to know how to care for them so that they produce blooms for years to come then bring yours along. Orchids, are not necessarily tricky (particularly the new varieties of Phalaenopsis) but the care of them is quite unlike other houseplants. If you have other types of orchid with which you require help then do feel free to bring those along too.
Expect to leave with plenty of new plants from division, cuttings and seed sowing. If you bring along a Hippeastrum or Orchid expect to leave with a happier plant and the knowledge you need to care for it so that it will bloom for you for years to come.
