Talk

'Dawyck Botanic Garden' by Graham Stewart

North East Group talk by Graham Stewart, the Curator of Collections at Dawyck Botanic Garden, a regional garden of RBGE, about this cherished ‘Jewel in Scotland’s Crown’.

Dawyck has a long and rich history of planting for over 350 years.  The collections include botanical riches from round the globe including China, Japan, Europe, Chile, and more recently plants from cooler regions of the northern hemisphere, including Nepal.  There are many historical trees including the fabled Dawyck Beech and the European Silver Fir planted in 1680.  Rich in colourful rhododendrons and spring bulbs early in the season, with Himalayan poppies and lush perennials through the summer, the garden matures into a crescendo of Autumn colour before the slumber of winter.  The garden is truly a feast for eyes of the gardening connoisseur.
