Plant and Craft Fair: Athelhampton House
After the disappointing cancellation of many events this year, gardeners and plant lovers will be pleased to know that the Great Dorset Plant Fair is on for Sunday 13th September. Based in the spacious grounds of Athelhampton House, the Fair attracts specialist nurseries from several counties across the south and west of England. Although there will be slightly fewer stalls this year, there will still be a really good selection of interesting plants on offer plus some local crafts and excellent refreshments.
The Fair is open to the Public from 10am until 3pm and admission is £7. Booking needs to be made in advance via Athelhampton House website or by telephoning 01305 848363 for further information. This is so that the organisers can monitor numbers in accordance with Government guidelines. Face coverings will need to be worn initially on arrival but may be removed once outside at the Fair or whilst eating in the Stables Restaurant (new Café menu). Social distancing will be maintained and the stalls will be arranged around a one-way system to help to keep things flowing. There will be a separate pedestrian entrance and exit to the car park. Other than that, hopefully business as usual. Athelhampton is quick and easy to find from the A35 dual carriageway (follow the brown tourist signs from the Puddletown exit). Postcode is DT2 7LG.
The Fair is organised by the conservation charity Plant Heritage Dorset Group and members will be admitted free of charge with a current membership card. Proceeds from the event supports Plant Conservation and Education work here in Dorset.
